️Introducing Duchess! ️1/22/2024
Before we bought our homestead, I put quite a bit of research into finding the perfect Livestock Gaurdian Dog for our family. With 5 children and knowing that we wanted to free range our chickens (and now goats!), we needed to have a protector that was docile with our family and fierce against predators. Great Pyrenees was the breed that was recommended on most homesteading blogs. I did the deep dive and read all of the information I could find on this breed along with reaching out to fellow homesteading groups. I was hooked!
Last year, I saw a post in our local farmers market group that had Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd puppies. Once again, I did the deep dive into researching Anatolian Shepherds. I loved everything I read about them.
I reached out to the owner and asked if I could get on the waiting list for the next litter of puppies. We are still currently a single income family and needed time to save up for a pup/vet expenses/etc.
On Thanksgiving, the owner messaged me and told me that a new litter had been born! We reserved our girl and we were sent the cutest picture updates as we waited for her to be ready to leave her mom.
We brought Duchess home on Saturday.
She has the sweetest personality and immediately bonded with our kids.
We are slowly working on introducing her to the chickens and goats and working on recall. She is so smart and is picking up on recall quickly!
We are so excited to have her in our family.
